Balmoral Show 2024
British Blonde Cattle Class Results
Judge: Mr James Weightman – Hallfield Herd
The shining star of the 2024 British Blonde Society National Show was Hillhead Rose along with her bull calf at foot, Hillhead Victory, who clinched the top title of the Blonde classes at Balmoral Show.
Shown by Rodgers Livestock team, this outstanding outfit captured the attention of the judge, Mr James Weightman of the Hallfield herd who commented “I was delighted to be asked to judge Balmoral Show and was privileged to have such a quality line up of Blonde cattle in front of me. Many of the 2nd and 3rd prize winners will go on to take championship prizes in their own right.
My champion oozed style and presence as soon as she stepped into the ring. The reserve was a heifer with calf which wasn’t far behind at all and has all the attributes I look for in Blondecattle. The younger classes gave me a formidable task to judge and it was all credit to all of the exhibitors for bringing out a wonderful line up of cattle”.
Hillhead Rose is no stranger to the show ring having won Junior and Supreme Champion Blonde at RUAS Sept 2021. Another accolade to add to her collection was the best exhibitor bred pairs from this years Balmoral Show when she was shown with heifer Hillhead Treacle.
Rose is a daughter of the renowned sire Allacott Herbert and her dam is Hillhead Lady who is also a show winning member of the herd having received the best cow title in the Society online competition in recent years.
The Reserve Supreme title was won by the heifer and calf pairing of Moneyscalp Shauna and her heifer calf Violet. Exhibited by Moneyscalp Blondes, Shauna is a daughter of ShanvalleyOralia and out of a Blackwater Jockey bred mother Terelton Linda.
Capturing the overall junior championship sash along with the overall male championship ticket came from the pedigree calf class, the September 2023 born bull Hillhead Unbeleiveable, a son of Gledney Rab and out of the homebred cow Natalie. This autumn born calf was another great entry from the Rodgers Livestock team.
The reserve junior championship was the 15 month old heifer Hillhead Unicorn exhibited by Gerard McClelland and Rodgers Livestock. Unicorn, another superb youngstser by GledneyRab and a daughter of the National Show breed champion Hillhead Rose.
The reserve male champion entry was Ivaniskey Ugo shown by I & R McElroy & Son. Their 12 month entry is sired by their herd stock sire Nigransha Paddy Power and bred from Ivaniskey Denise.
