100% CLEARANCE FOR BLONDE BULLS AT WELSHPOOL
The annual spring show and sale of British Blonde cattle took place at Welshpool Livestock market on Saturday 26 April 2025. The pre-sale show was judged by Pip Rogers, of Upperheath, Broadheath, Presteigne, Powys. Pip runs a herd of British Blue x Holstein-Friesian sucklers put to British Blonde bulls with a focus on calving ease, growth and muscle depth. His champion, the winner of the intermediate class of bulls at Welshpool was Whitepeak Uruk-Hai from C E & S W Mycock, Derbyshire. Sired by Whistley Olly P, a previous Bath & West Show reserve breed champion and out of homebred Whitepeak Primrose, Uruk-Hai followed in his father’s footsteps, when this May-2023 born bull was shown successfully in 2024. He won reserve interbreed champion and breed champion at Poynton show, breed champion at Hope show and reserve breed champion at Ipstones. He went home with Messrs Jones, Newtown, Powys for 4500gns.
Leading the senior class of bulls at 4,800gns, was Rosebank Ultron from Jamie Turnock, Derbyshire, he was snapped up by D L & M Rogers, Presteigne, Powys. Rosebank Ultron a February-2023 born bull boasting an Elite health status was a son of the noted Ark Maverick and out of Rosebank Ultron. Second prize winner was another bull from the Mycock family, this time Whitepeak Usain born in February-2023, sired by the French easy calving bull, Hashtag, out of the homebred dam Whitepeak Regina. H W Lloyd, Abergele, Clwyd, won the top bid at 4,800gns for this paternal brother to the 2024 Royal Welsh and Three Counties champion.
Second prize winner in the intermediate section from Jamie Turnock again hit the 4,800gns mark, this time Rosebank Union a Doncombe Ozark, April-2023 born son from Rosebank Nancy, was snapped up by pedigree breeder, S Pegington from Usk for his Nantygelli herd.
Winning the junior class of British Blonde bulls was I C Richardson, from Cheshire with his August-2023 born Warmingham Ugo, a Hallfield Plato son from Warmingham Scarlett, this junior outfit was secured by R T Evans, Hollybus, Blackwood for 4,000gns.
The female class was led by T H & J H Hickin, Cardigan, with December-2023 born, Hillhead Ranger daughter Penwen Up, out of a Kinaston Galloway sired dam, Almeley Oceanina.
Five bulls sold to a top price of 4,800gns and an average of £4809 with a 100% clearance.
