CARLISLE SPRING SALE

BRITISH BLONDE CATTLE SOCIETY SPRING SHOW & SALE

SATURDAY 11th MAY 2024

 

Blonde breeders enjoyed a complete clearance at the Society Spring show and sale held at Carlisle (11th May) securing a top price of 6200gns for 2 year old Silverwood Tom shown by N McKnight of Newry, Co.Down, Northern Ireland.

Tom is a son of the famous French bull Drop and out of an Ardmore Gargoyle dam Silverwood Opal. He now joins the Everingham herd of Neil and Jess Barrett from North Yorkshire.

The next price tag was 6000gns for Hallfield Tyne consigned by P Weightman & Sons from Peterlee, Co.Durham. Tyne collected the reserve championship rosette and is a son of Aaron Jaigo and bred out of Hallfield Mia, a daughter of Hilltop Hector. Successful buyer was M Harrison of the Shapfell herd, Shap, Cumbria.

Following was another entry from Messrs Weightman, Hallfield Thumper 22nd who sold for 5500gns and also lifted the supreme championship award. Thumper is another son of Aaron Jaigo and out of another homebred mother Frankie who carries Blackwater Ainsley in her pedigree. Thumper was knocked down to TW Brown of Hudswell, Richmond to join the Sandbeck herd.

The second bull shown by Messrs McKnight achieved 4800gns. This price went to Silverwood Ted, born July 2022, is by Glacon and out of Silverwood Morag another Gargoyle sired mother. Ted was sold to DD& JA Scott of Orkney for their Grutha herd.

The third bull shown by Messrs McKnight achieved 4000gns. This price went to Silverwood Thiago a 2 year old son also by Ardmore Gargoyle but this time from a Wiveton Indiana sired homebred cow Hope. Thiago now travels to join the Bushypark herd based in Richmond, North Yorkshire for Mr JJ Horn.

Topping the female entries at 2800gns was a pair of heifers from the Hallfield pen of Messrs Weightman. First to reach this price was Hallfield Toyota, a daughter of Jiggywigs Oscar and out of a Blackwater Ainsley bred dam. Toyota was sold to A&F Moore of the Gulham herd, North Owersby, Market Rasen.

The second heifer to reach the leading price tag was Hallfield Talia a heifer by Brack-a-Broom Rob and out of a Broccagh Kingfisher sired mother. Talia now joins the Bowermadden herd of Rebecca Jenkins, Wick, Caithness.  

Also joining the Gulham herd for Messrs Moore was another pair of heifers from the Hallfield pen of Messrs Weightman, namely Hallfield Tulip who sold for 2600gns and Hallfield Tamara who sold for 2400gns.

Averages – 7 bulls £4950, 8 heifers £2323.
